The Literacy Center provides a teen-friendly space in which to read, write and share the written and spoken word. Book discussions, read-aloud visitors, debate, spoken word events, poetry slams, guest authors, after-school credit make-up and summer school gatherings happen here.  An eclectic collection of books, found through word-of-mouth and culling many book lists, appeals to street-savvy kids and is the heart of the The Center.

In addition, one-on-one time with a teacher after school to find just the right book establishes positive literacy based relationships with many students, some of whom have claimed that the first book they've ever read cover to cover is the one we found with them.  In this way, our goal of building a community of readers and writers comes full circle to meet our main mission at Stadium View: to offer students hope, understanding and academic support.
